Pre-College: June 1991- June 1999
1) The Prep Telegraph- The Prep Telegraph is the Prep for Prep Newsletter that goes out to Students, Staff, Alumni, Board Members, and Supporters of the Program. The Newsletter includes profiles of the students as well as information about the various activities and events that are taking place in the program. In addition, it also includes an editorial piece that usually responds to some relevant current event.
2) The Collegiate Journal- The Collegiate Journal is the high school newspaper for the Collegiate School. Like moDest school papers, The Collegiate Journal covered current events a the school and the surrounding community. Unlike other school papers, however, members of the staff of The FaCollegiate Journal had the additional burden of having to maintain a higher standard of excellence in the quality of the writing because Collegiate is known for its English Department and for churning out excellent, talented, and creative writers. Collegiate, itself, has a rich literary community including various additional student publications.
3) Herencia- Herencia is the Spanish Language Magazine of the Collegiate School. Many of the students at Collegiate take Spanish as a foreign language and Herencia is the place where they can share and practice their newly acquired skill with each other. The magazine includes poetry as well as articles about different Spanish speaking countries and cultures; the topics in the magazine range from history to current events and beyond.
Post College: September 2003 – Present
1) Urban Latino Magazine- Urban Latino Magazine is a national magazine focusing on Urban Latino Culture focusing on up-and-coming and successful Latinos in music, fashion, film, and art. Depending on the issue the magazine has different central themes from month to month; for example one issue might focus on health and fitness, another on sex, and a third might be about music or technology.
2) Sofrito- Sofrito is an insert that is produced by Urban Latino Magazine in conjunction with El Diario, one of the two most widely read Spanish language daily newspapers. Sofrito is a weekly insert that like Urban Latino Magazine focuses on up-and-coming and successful Latinos in music, fashion, film, and art; however, unlike the magazine the articles in Sofrito are much shorter and published both in English and Spanish. Sofrito could be called Urban Latino Magazine’s bilingual counterpart.
3) Latino Leaders Magazine- Latino Leaders Magazine is a national magazine that profiles and interviews successful Latinos nationwide. Unlike Urban Latino Magazine, Latino Leaders Magazine focuses more heavily on Latinos who are successful in business and politics and who are successful entrepreneurs. Latino Leaders Magazine is an inspiration to Latinos featuring articles about the struggles and successes of current prominent Latino figures by illustrating their triumph over their trials and tribulations.
4) The Manhattan Times- The Manhattan Times is a community newspaper that covers Marble Hill, Washington Heights, Inwood, and El Barrio. A bilingual weekly newspaper, The Manhattan Times covers current issues that directly impact its surrounding community. With articles about local community board meetings and changes to the neighborhood, a calendar of events, and letters and editorials from local constituents, The Manhattan Times is the eyes, ears, and voice of area residents.
5) Mi Zona Hispana- Mi Zona Hispana is a new free Spanish Language weekly newspaper distributed in certain areas of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. As a new publication, Mi Zona Hispana has a large portion of its content dedicated to paid advertising and community calendars; however, the few articles and features that make up the rest of the newspaper are very informative and of high interest to the readership. The regular columns include a main story usually about immigration, tax laws, or other community concern as well as several additional articles dedicated to providing advice along with information.
6) FL’s Point of View (http://www.flpointofview.blogspot.com/)- FL’s Point of View is a personal blog, a blog where readers can do the following: consider topics of interest to all including observations about everyday life; enjoy poems and other narratives and letters to and from readers; and develop a community of like-minded individuals where ideas and suggestions can be exchanged (... this can also be done in Spanish or Spanglish!)
